- Austin Community College District acquired Highland Mall and has completed the conversion of one of the former anchor stores into Phase 1 of the Highland Campus. The district intends to convert the remainder of the mall buildings and to redevelop a portion of the remaining site to expand this campus. The completed Highland Campus will anchor a walkable urban center, with mixed use facilities to be developed on the remainder of the site.
- Phase II includes the conversion the mall space for educational purposes, including classrooms and laboratories; culinary arts and hospitality management, regional workforce development center (including electronics), health sciences regional simulation center, a creative digital media center (fine arts, performing arts and digital arts), a jewelry CAD and GIS, instruction and office space for continuing education and adult education, offices for faculty and staff, a food court, building support and service spaces as needed.
