Flintco Earns ABC Rocky Mountain Region Advocate Award for Industry-Leading Safety Initiatives

Flintco has been awarded the prestigious ABC Rocky Mountain Region Advocate Award for its groundbreaking efforts in advancing construction safety education and workforce development. The company’s innovative approach to safety advocacy, particularly through its partnership with Aurora Public Schools (APS) ConstrucTECH program, has set new standards for industry leadership in safety education.

At the forefront of these initiatives are Project Development Manager Charlie Brackman and HSE Area Manager Cam Cale from Flintco’s Denver office, who have been instrumental in the company’s educational outreach efforts. The duo has led a comprehensive safety education program, providing students with personal protective equipment (PPE) and teaching crucial safety practices, including Flintco’s signature 4 LIFE mindset and the 4 Rs methodology—Recognize hazards, Reach out, Raise your voice, and do it Right.

A cornerstone of Flintco’s safety advocacy is the powerful documentary “The Shortcut – A Story of Survival,” featuring HSE Regional Director Shane Harris. Created for internal training, this impactful film chronicles Harris’s personal experience with a workplace accident at a previous employer, serving as a stark reminder of the consequences of safety shortcuts. The company has now made this resource available industry-wide as part of its commitment to preventing workplace injuries.

Flintco’s dedication to safety innovation is perhaps most evident in its recent mandate for Type II safety helmets across all project sites, effective March 1, 2024. This initiative began as a pilot program in 2018 and has evolved into a company-wide standard, offering superior protection compared to traditional hard hats. In a demonstration of their commitment to future industry professionals, Flintco has extended this protection to APS ConstrucTECH students through helmet donations.

The impact of Flintco’s advocacy extends far beyond its immediate operations. As graduates of the APS ConstrucTECH program enter the workforce, they carry a deeply ingrained safety-first mindset that promises to influence the broader construction industry. This multiplier effect exemplifies why Flintco’s approach to safety advocacy has earned recognition from ABC Rocky Mountain Region.

The Advocate Award acknowledges Flintco’s comprehensive approach to safety leadership, combining innovative educational partnerships, cutting-edge safety equipment adoption, and a willingness to share resources industry-wide. Through these efforts, Flintco is actively working to combat industry complacency and create lasting change in construction safety practices.
