Oklahoma City, OK, January 31, 2025 – Representatives from Oklahoma County joined project partners Flintco, HOK, REES, CEC, and ZFI to break ground on a transformative Behavioral Care Center for Oklahoma County. The milestone ceremony commemorates the start of construction on the $44.4 million facility that will revolutionize behavioral healthcare delivery within the county’s criminal justice system. The 56,000-square-foot facility state-of-the-art center will house 60 beds and provide comprehensive behavioral health services to individuals within the justice system, with the goal of reducing recidivism by up to 50%. The Behavioral Care Center, modeled after a successful facility in Nashville, will divert individuals from incarceration, improving the detention center’s environment.

The new Behavioral Health Center, designed by the architectural team of HOK and REES, will enable immediate medical triage and proper placement of individuals entering the criminal justice system. The single-story facility has been thoughtfully designed to meet the complex needs of behavioral healthcare delivery. At its core, the center will feature 60 specialized treatment beds, complemented by advanced triage and assessment areas equipped with the latest healthcare technology. The state-of-the-art treatment spaces will balance security with a therapeutic atmosphere, creating an environment conducive to healing and recovery. Special attention has been given to the outdoor spaces, which will feature therapeutic landscaping designed to support patient well-being. The facility’s layout includes dedicated surface parking to ensure convenient access for staff, visitors, and emergency services.
The project represents a collaborative effort to address the critical need for accessible behavioral healthcare within the justice system. Flintco’s proven track record in healthcare construction, combined with the architectural expertise of HOK and REES, along with engineering services by CEC and structural engineering by ZFI, ensures that this facility will meet the highest standards for behavioral healthcare delivery.
