Flintco Renewable Energy and Alberici Join Forces to Build First Enterprise Utility-Scale Solar Project in Illinois
Construction slated to begin later this summer
Flintco Renewable Energy and Alberici reached a major milestone together: Selection as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for two 128-MWdc (megawatt direct current) projects in central Illinois with owner, Adapture Renewables, Inc. (ARI). The two projects are expected to create more than 300 construction jobs and pump more than $250 million of economic impact into the local communities.
“This announcement is the culmination of a coordinated enterprise collaboration that started two years ago to launch Flintco Renewable Energy from a start-up with a lot of potential to a legitimate player in the renewable energy sector,” said Market Leader Rob Marchetti. “We’ve built a strong team backed by Alberici’s portfolio, footprint, and resources that helped put our enterprise team in a position to win the Adapture project with a lot more like it in the pipeline.”
ARI is part of the private holding and investment company of the Kirk Kristiansen family – the family that created LEGO® – and was “founded to build a sustainable future for the LEGO® brand,” according to their website. ARI develops, acquires, builds, owns, and operates utility-scale solar energy assets and battery energy storage systems.
The two new utility-scale solar energy projects in Illinois are comprised of more than 232,000 solar panels each. The projects are scheduled to break ground later this year with commercial operation expected in early 2026. Although the projects include enough capacity to power more than 34,250 homes, the electricity generated is being absorbed by a leading social technology company through an agreement that recognizes the mitigation of pollutants and greenhouse gases associated with the generation of renewable or low-carbon energy.
