Sustainability

Building a better future for people and the planet.

Every choice, from material selection to on-site practices, reflect our responsibility to leave a positive impact within the communities we serve.

A culture of responsibility.

Sustainability has always been part of who we are. For more than a century, Flintco and our sister company, Alberici, have built the infrastructure and community spaces that improve lives and protect our shared future. Guided by our enterprise-wide environmental, social, and governance strategy, we reduce waste, conserve energy, and strengthen the communities where we live and work. Every project is a chance to lead by example and raise the standard for what construction can do for the planet.

Our approach

Putting sustainability to work.

We take a practical, accountable approach to minimizing impact on every jobsite. Our commitment is built on continuous improvement through Lean tools and responsible building practices.

Here’s how we put that into practice:

We look ahead—planning with precision and reducing waste before it’s created. Our team uses Lean planning principles to identify value-adding activities and eliminate waste from the start, from optimizing delivery schedules to selecting methods that minimize rework. For projects with sustainability certifications or environmental preservation requirements, those goals are built directly into our Conditions of Satisfaction and are part of how we define success.

We organize work areas to create safer, cleaner, more efficient spaces where materials are protected, and nothing gets wasted through poor handling or storage. The Last Planner System® keeps trades coordinated and equipment productive, reducing idle time and emissions. We’ve also made deliberate choices about our tools and transportation—our Arrowhead Equipment & Supply fleet and company vehicles prioritize fuel efficiency and lower emissions. And throughout construction, we share what we’re seeing, what we’re learning, and how we’re improving. Not because we’re required to, but because it makes every project better.

Sustainability isn’t a one-time achievement, it’s a continuous improvement discipline. Our LEED Accredited Professionals and Green Associates bring certified expertise to our projects. As corporate members of the U.S. Green Building Council, we stay up to date on evolving standards and best practices. After every project, we share results, document what worked, and refine our approach so the next build is even more efficient. We’re proud to partner with clients who share our vision—because building better isn’t just good for business. It’s good for everyone.

ACC Highland Campus

Austin, TX

Austin Community College transformed the former Highland Mall into a thriving educational campus through adaptive reuse. Rather than demolishing the aging retail center, ACC partnered with Flintco to reimagine existing structures as modern learning spaces, delivering environmental and community benefits while preserving the neighborhood’s architectural legacy.

The major renovation of the former JCPenney building avoided demolition waste and the environmental impacts of raw material extraction and transportation.

Storefront glass was crushed and incorporated into new concrete, reducing raw material needs.

75-80% construction waste was diverted from landfills across both buildings.

67% reduction in embodied carbon (Building 2000).
