ABC Honors Tim Wallin as Safety Professional of the Year for Pioneering Safety Education

Associated Builders Contractors (ABC) of West Tennessee has named Tim Wallin Safety Professional of the Year, recognizing his transformative impact on construction safety education and mental health awareness in the industry.

Wallin identified a critical gap in contractor safety training several years ago, developing essential programs in collaboration with ABC. His initiative began with fundamental safety training to support smaller contractors who lacked resources or awareness of safety requirements.

Building on this foundation, Wallin created a comprehensive Case Management training program that has significantly impacted contractor safety performance. The program specifically targets reducing recordable incident rates and helps contractors lower their Experience Modification Rate (EMR), directly affecting insurance costs.

In response to industry mental health concerns, Wallin expanded his safety initiatives to include crucial suicide prevention training. After completing VitalCog certification, he became ABC’s regional mental health champion and collaborated with industry experts during Construction Safety Week to deliver specialized mental health programming.

“Tim has hosted multiple seminars for us and completed the VitalCog training through our national office to be a mental health champion for our chapter,” said Lindsey Nails, ABC representative. “His dedication to contractor safety and well-being has set new standards for our industry.”

Wallin’s commitment extends beyond training development. He has made ABC’s Center for Excellence training facility available to other safety educators, creating a hub for construction safety education in the region. This approach has particularly benefited smaller contractors who previously lacked access to essential safety resources and training.
