Wayne Saiz Recognized for Strengthening Safety Through Coaching

Flintco Superintendent Wayne Saiz has earned runner-up honors for FactorLab’s 2026 SURGE Best Coach Award, recognizing his ability to engage field teams, strengthen daily safety planning, and encourage meaningful conversations that help prevent incidents.

FactorLab’s annual SURGE Awards recognize individuals and organizations advancing incident prevention through stronger field engagement, communication, and continuous improvement. The Best Coach Award honors individuals who help others improve the quality of their daily planning and safety conversations.

Strengthening Safety Through Everyday Coaching

Wayne was recognized for the consistency, practical value, and reach of his coaching across multiple Flintco projects. His involvement with field teams and trade partners improves daily planning across the organization by reinforcing strong safety practices, recognizing positive behaviors, and providing specific feedback that encourages crews to think critically about the hazards associated with their work.

Wayne focuses on making safety planning a conversation rather than a checklist. He encourages team members and trade partners to evaluate their planned activities, identify potential exposures, and discuss appropriate controls. This collaborative approach strengthens accountability and gives crews a more active role in planning their work.

Leading with High Standards and Genuine Care

Known for his thoughtful, people-focused leadership, Wayne brings a careful, deliberate approach to risk identification and decision-making. He takes time to understand the challenges crews face, asks questions that encourage critical thinking, and helps teams anticipate potential obstacles before work begins. His attention to detail is matched by a genuine commitment to supporting others, building relationships grounded in respect, trust, and shared accountability.

Wayne’s commitment to improving safety across Flintco earned him SURGE recognition. By engaging with teams outside his own projects, he reinforces consistent expectations, strengthens relationships with trade partners, and supports better planning across the organization.

“Wayne’s standards are unrelenting and unwavering when it comes to safety and quality. He holds people accountable while taking the time to listen, offer guidance, and help them succeed. That balance of high expectations and genuine care for others is what makes him such an effective leader and coach,” said Dave Kenney, Flintco Construction Director.

Wayne’s recognition reflects Flintco 4 LIFE principles and our shared commitment to looking out for one another. His emphasis on recognizing hazards, speaking up, and doing the right thing helps strengthen safety practices and reinforces accountability across Flintco.
