Planning First, Building Faster: A Proactive Approach to Supply Chain
Dec 17 2025

Challenge
Flintco faced an aggressive timeline to deliver the 370,000 SF Walton Family Whole Health & Fitness Center, the first building on Walmart’s new campus. The facility’s complex roofing—ranging from the natatorium’s moisture-resistant assembly to the tennis courts’ high-span structures—required materials that were difficult to source amid widespread supply chain disruptions. Manufacturers could not guarantee delivery within standard lead times, let alone the accelerated schedule of this project. Any delay in roofing would halt interior work, creating cascading schedule impacts, and the project had zero contingency to absorb such delays.
Solution
Nine months before the roof installation, Flintco identified a shortage of TPO roofing and insulation. The team worked directly with manufacturers to secure production capacity and secure early, partial deliveries as materials became available. A dedicated laydown area was established to receive, store, and protect these materials over an extended period. By accepting staggered shipments and carefully tracking inventory, Flintco ensured all roofing components were on hand and organized before installation began. Close coordination among procurement, scheduling, and field teams ensured material availability aligned with planned installation dates, eliminating uncertainty during the critical roofing phase.
Result
All roofing materials were available and ready when installation began, allowing the project to maintain its aggressive schedule despite ongoing supply chain volatility. Early identification of the TPO and insulation shortage—and the flexibility to receive and store materials ahead of need—prevented costly delays, protected interior progress, and kept the Walton Family Whole Health & Fitness Center on track for on-time delivery. The approach demonstrated how proactive planning and logistics management can neutralize market disruptions before they reach the jobsite.
